I got out of work late a couple of days ago and when I arrived home, even though it was Betsy's bedtime, the house was dark and there was no car in the drive. After calling Reed's cell, I found them sitting at The 4 Provinces, an Irish pub around the corner from our house, eating fish and chips and listening to a guy with a guitar play classic Irish pub music. Even though it was 8pm, Betsy was awake, chipper and dancing to the music. All a complete first.
Usually after about 7:45, there's no living with Betsy unless she's asleep, but there she stood with her cousin, Eamon, bobbing back and forth with her hands in the air to "Black Velvet Band". Who knew? Pushing Betsy's bedtime is also all to the good. The little bugger keeps waking up earlier and earlier. We're going to "fall back" soon and then she's going to begin forcing us to start our day at 5am. I was liking it more when she slept in until 7.
In other news, the front porch project has finally begun. Our rhododendrons are now deceased and our front door is now suspended several feet in the air with nothing in front of it. Come winter we will have actual HAND RAILS to hold when we go down slippery steps and come spring, a big deep porch for Betsy to play on while we sit and sip vodka tonics after work and watch the world go by.
Pictures of both the incredible dancing Betsy and the hole where our old porch used to be will follow soon.
