On Wednesday, they kicked me out of the hospital. I frankly might have been ok at home sooner, but it was tons easier to spend time with my little bird of a girl when I had crash space just an elevator ride away and food was showing up hot and admittedly bland but edible at needed times. So we stayed. Yes, Reed stayed too. There are no "semi-private" i.e. SHARED rooms in Alexandria INOVA labor and delivery, so husbands can all stay without you being charged extra. Of course they don't get "beds" they get the world's worst chair-that-folds-out-to-a-cot, but the company is really wonderful. I was glad he was there. And leaving Betsy was hard. Really hard.
Going home without her seemed strange and wrong, but we still hadn't finished painting the nursery and everything was full of boxes and bags, so at least the time was useful even if it was scary and wrong. I got into the car with the sensation that I hadn't seen one in 1000 years - I'd been in the hospital a week. Then again, maybe I just didn't recognize the car. Reed had it detailed while I was in the hospital to get the doghair out of the interior (AGAIN!) so it was all sparkly.
Anyhow, all of the work that was at home was going to get done by someone else. Me? I had a date with a breast pump, and a bunch of sleep.
