Reviews and Patriotism
Well, yesterday afternoon after I'd already posted my journal for the day I went over to Scott's house where he was stranded waiting for carpet installation to occur and we did my review.

I think everyone hates reviews. In short, we started off talking about things that we both think are going well and ended up on a somehow negative note that left a bad taste in my mouth -- even though I *know* that wasn't what was supposed to happen. Does anyone have any not-stupid resources on how to handle the reviewprocess? As a manager or as the employee being reviewed? Reviewing is a very personal soft skill and I know everyone has to find their own place, but there's got to be something that isn't legalistic or dumb out there. Just thought I'd check. I've been staring vacantly into space ever since I left his place trying to figure out what actually just happened there and why that felt so weirdly negative. Nothing we talked about surprised me, and I mostly feel he thinks well of me, so what gives??

Anyhow, as for what we did today, we woke up, stuck our noses outside the door anoted the air pollution and decided firmly against ANY outdoor activities. Then we sat on the couch, read books, and played computer games until lunch time at which point we decided we'd show the world hot-dog eating champion (who is Asian) that his culture's food is actually more fun than the crap he traveled thousands of miles to over eat on our national day and went out for dim sum. (Don't trouble to tell me that the hot-dog champ is Japanese and dim sum is not -- that gets in the way of my own personal logic). By dinner time, though, we were back supporting our silly American customs and went over to Julie's for hotdogs (on which we did NOT gorge), watermelon and strawberry shortcake. Much incredibly boring for the childless discussion of babies and birth was had. Mitchell, Julie's little 5 month old guy squirmed ceaselessly the entire evening. I had no idea babies had that much energy. I am sunk.
