It was late on Saturday night and I turned on Dungeons and Dragons, the movie, figuring Reed and I could finish the puttering we were doing while it was on and easily turn it off in about a half hour to go to bed. Uh. It didn't LAST half an hour. My god. I *like* cheesy movies, but this one was aimed squarely at the 10-13 year old market with not even a sop to the older "Yes, I like fantasy movies and am a little ashamed of it" crowd. Jeremy Irons can act. It has been well established with The Mission, Brideshead Revisited, Stealing Beauty, Lolita -- but dear god how the mighty have fallen. Simplistic, overblown and -- well -- stupid. The other actors were all so young as to lack a sense of diversity, their delivery was predictable and always looked like they were smiling behind their hands. Yuck. This from a woman who can watch Barbarella with great glee. I guess I've found my limits.

FWIW, I did watch The Mummy Returns last night and thought it was a totally entertaining execution of formula, so I'm not all that high and mighty in my tastes.
