It happens to me every year. I go to a plant show or to the garden center and get all excited about planting something that I ought to know won't grow for me. I buy three sacrificial plants, almost invariably spending too much money on them, and put them someplace where they will most likely NOT prosper. Mind you, I also plant things that live, but those sacrifical plants always seem to happen no matter what I promise myself.

Last year, the plants were cammasia bulbs, which like more water than I am honestly ever going to provide. I suspect this year it's going to be plants that want more light than my yard has. You don't really know until you try, right?

Anyhow, I was in my side yard yesterday and I noticed the camassia coming up. Hope springs eternal and all that. Anyhow, now I need to think through a wetter place for them. Even if they're alive, they're still not happy. They've made it this far. It'd be a shame to let them die now.
