He basically started behaving suspiciously to see what would happen. As a reporter on a mission, he had a way to make the Park Police believe him when he decided he wasn't interested in being harassed to prove a point anymore. You and I wouldn't be so lucky. The article was on the front page of the print edition of the Washington Post today, but I had to dig to find the link to it in the Post website. Anyhow, I think he does a nice job of illustrating how stupid our criteria for suspicious behaviour are. If a terrorist really wanted to get pictures of things on the mall, it'd be easy enough to have a pal pose next to the thing of interest and then ignore the pal. We are fools if we think that fear mongering is really going to help us catch intelligent and determined folks doing destructive things.
