So we took Betsy to visit some college friends in Charlottesville this weekend and discover how 18 month olds feel about 4 month olds and how 4 month olds feel about travel in general. Ann and John's little guy, Sam, is mobile, verbal and incredibly sweet. Betsy actually dealt with travel just fine and we all got along famously until about 3 am when it surfaced that Betsy does not like sleeping in a pitch-dark room. We guess. Heck we don't know. But after her 3:30am feed, the sprocket took to making low level fussy cries just persistently enough that we couldn't ignore it and just loud enough we felt we had to intervene so that Ann, John and Sam wouldn't wake up. This finally meant one of us sleeping out on the couch with her in the dimly lit livingroom that has almost the same lighting as her nursery which is why we diagnose the too-dark bedroom as the problem.
Anyhow for all we were completely dead tired by the time we got home, it was a great trip with a side jaunt to see Ginger Greene, the widow of Reed's dad's college best friend Art. She is a great favorite of ours.
Am currently far too bleary to think much about the details. Suffice to say that we got drunk on 3 glasses of wine and a glass of port, ate breakfast for dinner had apalling amounts of Ben and Jerry's, and talked about everything, nothing and the spaces in between. Everything you want out of a weekend with friends you don't see often enough.
